Background

Sulfotransferase that utilizes 3'-phospho-5'-adenylyl sulfate (PAPS) as sulfonate donor to catalyze the sulfate conjugation. Responsible for the sulfation of cholesterol as sulfonate donor to catalyze the sulfate conjugation. Responsible for the sulfation of cholesterol . Catalyzes sulfation of the 3beta-hydroxyl groups of steroids, such as, pregnenolone and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) . Preferentially sulfonates cholesterol, while it also has significant activity with pregnenolone and DHEA . Plays a role in epidermal cholesterol metabolism and in the regulation of epidermal proliferation and differentiation .

Western blot analysis of SULT2B1 expression in HT29 (A), mouse brain (B), rat brain (C) whole cell lysates. (Predicted band size: 39; 41 kD; Observed band size: 41 kD)

Immunofluorescent analysis of SULT2B1 staining in A549 cells. Formalin-fixed cells were permeabilized with 0.1% Triton X-100 in TBS for 5-10 minutes and blocked with 3% BSA-PBS for 30 minutes at room temperature. Cells were probed with the primary antibody in 3% BSA-PBS and incubated overnight at 4 °C in a hidified chamber. Cells were washed with PBST and incubated with a DyLight 594-conjugated secondary antibody (red) in PBS at room temperature in the dark.
