Can hydrolyze ATP in the presence of actin, which is essential for its function as a motor protein . Involved in melanosome transport. Also mediates the transport of vesicles to the plasma membrane . May also be required for some polarization process involved in dendrite formation .

Western blot analysis of MYO5A expression in H9C2 (A), AML12 (B), A2780 (C), HepG2 (D) whole cell lysates. (Predicted band size: 215 kD; Observed band size: 185 kD)

Immunohistochemical analysis of MYO5A staining in human breast cancer formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue section. The section was pre-treated using heat mediated antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0). The section was then incubated with the antibody at room temperature and detected using an HRP conjugated compact polymer system. DAB was used as the chromogen. The section was then counterstained with haematoxylin and mounted with DPX.
