Background

Required for the binding of mRNA to ribosomes. Functions in close association with EIF4-F and EIF4-A. Binds near the 5'-terminal cap of mRNA in presence of EIF-4F and ATP. Promotes the ATPase activity and the ATP-dependent RNA unwinding activity of both EIF4-A and EIF4-F.

Western blot analysis of EIF4B expression in MCF7 (A), 22RV1 (B), Hela (C) whole cell lysates. (Predicted band size: 69 kD; Observed band size: 80 kD)

Immunofluorescent analysis of EIF4B staining in Hela cells. Formalin-fixed cells were permeabilized with 0.1% Triton X-100 in TBS for 5-10 minutes and blocked with 3% BSA-PBS for 30 minutes at room temperature. Cells were probed with the primary antibody in 3% BSA-PBS and incubated overnight at 4 °C in a humidified chamber. Cells were washed with PBST and incubated with a DyLight 594-conjugated secondary antibody (red) in PBS at room temperature in the dark.

Store at 4°C short term. For long term storage, store at -20°C, avoiding freeze/thaw cycles.
