Background

Accepts ubiquitin from the E1 complex and catalyzes its covalent attachment to other proteins . In vitro catalyzes 'Lys-48'-linked polyubiquitination . Involved in endoplasmic reticulum-associated degradation (ERAD) . Required for sterol-induced ubiquitination of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase and its subsequent proteasomal degradation .

Western blot analysis of UBE2G2 expression in MCF7 (A), HT1080 (B), mouse heart (C), rat testis (D) whole cell lysates. (Predicted band size: 15; 18 kD; Observed band size: 18 kD)

Immunofluorescent analysis of UBE2G2 staining in NIH3T3 cells. Formalin-fixed cells were permeabilized with 0.1% Triton X-100 in TBS for 5-10 minutes and blocked with 3% BSA-PBS for 30 minutes at room temperature. Cells were probed with the primary antibody in 3% BSA-PBS and incubated overnight at 4 °C in a humidified chamber. Cells were washed with PBST and incubated with a AREX® Fluor 594-conjugated secondary antibody (red) in PBS at room temperature in the dark. DAPI was used to stain the cell nuclei (blue).
