Background
GITR-TNFRSF18, also known as glucocorticoid-induced tumor necrosis factor receptor (GITR), is a transmembrane protein that plays a role in immune regulation: Structure GITR is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein that is a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily (TNFRSF). It is encoded by the tnfrsf18 gene on chromosome 4 in mice. Expression GITR is expressed in several immune cells, including B lymphocytes, effector T cells, NK cells, eosinophils, macrophages, and activated DCs. Function GITR activation can promote the function of effector T cells, inhibit the function of Treg cells, and increase T9 differentiation. GITR triggering can also induce both pro- and anti-apoptotic effects. Role in disease GITR activation can cause the development of autoimmune diseases. GITR knockout mice have lower mortality in an ischemia model.
