Background

Aquaporins form homotetrameric transmembrane channels, with each monomer independently mediating water transport across the plasma membrane along its osmotic gradient . Plays an important role in fluid secretion in salivary glands . Required for TRPV4 activation by hypotonicity. Together with TRPV4, controls regulatory volume decrease in salivary epithelial cells . Seems to play a redundant role in water transport in the eye, lung and in sweat glands .

Western blot analysis of Aquaporin 5 expression in LO2 (A) whole cell lysates. (Predicted band size: 28 kD; Observed band size: 28 kD)

Immunohistochemical analysis of Aquaporin 5 staining in human ovarian formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue section. The section was pre-treated using heat mediated antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0). The section was then incubated with the antibody at room temperature and detected using an HRP conjugated compact polymer system. Tyramide-AREX® Fluor 488 (green) was used as the chromogen. The section was then counterstained with DAPI (blue).
