Background

Fibronectins bind cell surfaces and various compounds including collagen, fibrin, heparin, DNA, and actin . Fibronectins are involved in cell adhesion, cell motility, opsonization, wound healing, and maintenance of cell shape . Involved in osteoblast compaction through the fibronectin fibrillogenesis cell-mediated matrix assembly process, essential for osteoblast mineralization . Participates in the regulation of type I collagen deposition by osteoblasts . Acts as a ligand for the LILRB4 receptor, inhibiting FCGR1A/CD64-mediated monocyte activation .

Western blot analysis of Fibronectin expression in HeLa (A), SP2/0 (B), rat lung (C) whole cell lysates. (Predicted band size: 272 kD; Observed band size: 260 kD)

Immunohistochemical analysis of Fibronectin staining in human liver cancer formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue section. The section was pre-treated using heat mediated antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0). The section was then incubated with the antibody at room temperature and detected using an HRP conjugated compact polymer system. DAB was used as the chromogen. The section was then counterstained with haematoxylin and mounted with DPX.
