Background

May mediate the import of long-chain fatty acids (LCFA) by facilitating their transport across cell membranes by facilitating their transport across cell membranes . Also catalyzes the ATP-dependent formation of fatty acyl-CoA using LCFA and very-long-chain fatty acids (VLCFA) as substrates . Mainly functions as a bile acyl-CoA synthetase catalyzing the activation of bile acids via ATP-dependent formation of bile acid CoA thioesters which is necessary for their subsequent conjugation with glycine or taurine . Both primary bile acids (cholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid) and secondary bile acids (deoxycholic acid and lithocholic acid) are the principal substrates .

Western blot analysis of FATP5 expression in 3T3L1 (A), HepG2 (B), NIH3T3 (C), PC3 (D) whole cell lysates. (Predicted band size: 75 kD; Observed band size: 75 kD kD)

Immunohistochemical analysis of FATP5 staining in human liver cancer formalin fixed paraffin embedded tissue section. The section was pre-treated using heat mediated antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6.0). The section was then incubated with the antibody at room temperature and detected using an HRP conjugated compact polymer system. DAB was used as the chromogen. The section was then counterstained with haematoxylin and mounted with DPX.
